3.0 TREND WATCH: PERSONAL PURPOSE AT WORK.

3.1 The Search for Purpose at Work. June 3, 2021. McKinsey at Work Podcast (~31 min). They discuss the pertinent findings of this article that demonstrates just how central purpose can be to the employee — now more than ever, on the back of the tumultuous year we all continue to endure. McKinsey believes businesses that have a clear and defined role in society, aka Purpose, perform better. Companies should also provide space for their employees to find and fulfill their individual purpose. When those two circumstances are fostered, it “can make a positive difference in the lives of colleagues and the performance of the company”. The authors also acknowledge that fulfilling individual purpose at work can be a result of privilege. They ascertain that corporations should uphold the responsibility of allowing employees both the time and space to find their own purpose, especially in the case of employees who are in employment out of pure necessity for the economic exchange.

3.2 To Get Your People’s Best Performance, Start With Purpose. May 21, 2021. In this article Gallup also underlines the importance of personal purpose, and how organizations can help employees unlock it. When employees are enabled to find the connection between their personal purpose and that of the organization, it creates a culture of ownership, shared responsibility, and proactive initiative. Gallup includes a list of questions that managers can use as tools to help employees identify what they care about most. When employees know their purpose and their strengths, it contributes to successfully executing a purpose-driven culture that delivers important outcomes: delivering on the promise of organizational purpose; thriving through change with resilience; and increasing empowerment and agility.

4.0 RELATED RESOURCE: Alaya (see event listing above) is also offering a Pride Month Toolkit that features a bit of history about Pride; how can companies participate; a calendar with activities; templates for communications and much more. Happy Pride everyone!

The company just received the Shorty Award for Best Use of Comedy. As a leader in promoting profit and purpose we congratulate all our friends at Public on this well-deserved recognition.
