Business for Purpose Network (B4PN) Weekly Announcement.

Update #32 — July 9, 2021

1.0 BUSINESS STRATEGY. The growth triple play: Creativity, analytics and purpose. McKinsey & Company. June 21, 2021. “In the period 2018–19, companies using just of the capabilities — either creativity, analytics, or purpose — saw an average growth rate of more than 6 percent. Adding a second component saw growth rates climb to more than 7 percent. For those that employed the full triple play, growth rates climbed to more than 12 percent.”

2.0 FRAMEWORK (UK). The Purposeful Company makes another strong case for the value of cross-sectoral collaboration. It is an organization that see’s their strengths, evidence-based research and policy design, as central to The Purposeful Company Ecosystem in the UK. They work collaboratively within a system of like-minded stakeholders (B Lab UK, British Academy, Blueprint, & Coalition for Inclusive Capitalism) to achieve the aspirational goal of enabling companies to “serve wider society at the same time as remaining commercial and profitable”.

3.0 WEBINAR RECORDING. Making the case to invest in Employee Purpose at your company. By Alaya. Learn how companies can make a compelling case for purpose-driven CSR program, with insights from leading companies and experts. (~1 hour)

4.0 CORO’S CORNER. Trends, Tips and Tools for Good from Canada’s own Coro Strandberg. Coro shares tons of great resources including: her work on the Future ofBusiness in Society; and Industries and Professions in Society. Propelling … the Purpose Economy; the Circular Economy; and Purposeful Boards. She also highlights the Purpose Economy Summit please register here; and Purpose Governance Dialogues at the Governance Professionals of Canada’s Annual Conference — agenda here.

5.0 SOCIAL JUSTICE ISSUES. What Business Leaders Can Learn From An Indigenous Worldview. What makes this issue (recovery of the unmarked graves of Indigenous children in former residental schools) tragic even beyond the appalling story it tells about maltreatment and death is that it speaks to the silencing of a worldview that could lead to better business and better societies.”

“Specifically, an Indigenous worldview is relational — from people to things, and even ideas. An Indigenous worldview recognizes that relationships take time to form and generate mutual responsibilities… Business is a part of the natural environment and the community: it does not sit outside of them… Business leaders can learn from an Indigenous worldview — most of all, to work toward a desirable future not just for business, but for all.”

Quote of the week: “In the two decades since, making the (Corporate Knights) Best 50 list has become a sought-after award for ambitious enterprises. The best employees all know they have a choice of where to work, and they’re demanding to work for companies that have purpose, equity, integrity and sustainability baked into their DNA.”

- Rick Spence, Senior Editor, Corporate Knights. June 30, 2021

Enjoy the reading and enjoy the week-end … on purpose!
